Maremmano Abruzzese Sheepdog
Better known as the Maremma, these dogs have a long and noble history. They are gentle with people and with the animals they guard. The dogs come into their own as full livestock guardians around the age of 2.
We decided to breed our Alpha dog Shadow, because we were so impressed with her wonderful qualities and we wanted another dog on the property. Shadow presented us with a litter of beautiful pups. Her pups are now working in Alaska, Oregon, California and on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
From Alaska:
Yes, things are going well with Rex….he is so magnificent!!! I am so proud of him and how he is growing!!! Fortunately, he is soooo sensitive; otherwise, he could knock me down and do whatever he wanted…
His hair is sooo thick, which is perfect since it is now getting below zero at night and will soon stay there during the day as well.
I am so grateful that we got our arrangement all in order to get him here. He has been a terrific addition to our home!!!
From Oregon:
Bella is wonderful she is very loved and a wonderful friend. She had her first season so she had to be up here at the house for a couple of weeks. I am afraid she got rather spoiled, and now needs to visit with us at least once a day. She was most anxious to get back to her sheep however, it was very cute to see her run down to the pasture and then once in check all her sheep. Licking and nuzzling them. She is a wonderful girl and everyone that comes here falls in love with her. I will get some pictures later today. I can also try to get some pictures of the male. He is huge!!! and starting to really protect her land. But as Bella he has a wonderful temperament. You did well with this breeding.
Seven is wonderful and huge!!!! I will try to get some photos of him with the sheep soon and e-mail them to you. I have several folks that will be looking for a guardian dog in the near future and will refer them to you. He has a great temperment and has run off coyotes and lions. He is quite a character. From California:
Sasha is doing great and is a valuable part of our ranch and family she is great at guarding ( the sheep, ducks ,cats, us ) she doesn't like the horses they're too big! Sasha has been chasing the coyotes off the back five acres for the last two days. THANK YOU !!!!
P.S. I saw Seven last month and was he ever beautiful and quite large, Everyone really likes him. |
