Q. How much acreage does it take to raise Alpacas?
A. Alpacas are perfect for small acreages. A 5 acre property can sustain 25-40 Alpacas. 5-10 Alpacas per acre is ideal.
Q. Are Alpacas easy to care for?
A. Yes. They are small, rarely over eat and need routine shearing, toe nail trimming, worming and vaccinations. They do not challenge fences which should be 3 1/2-5 Ft. high and dog proof. They need basic shelter against heat & foul weather.
Q. How do you transport Alpacas?
A. In the family mini van, station wagon, Utility vehicle or trailer. The Alpaca lies down and enjoys the ride.
Q. Are Alpacas Dangerous?
A. Absolutely not. They do not bite or butt. They do not have the teeth, horns, hooves or claws to do serious injury.
Q. Do Alpacas Spit?
Spitting is the Alpacas way of saying "Bug Off!" to let a male know that his amorous attentions are not welcome, or to establish a pecking order while eating. They rarely spit on people.
